چکیده

A new transmission model of human malaria in a partially immune population with three discrete delays is formulated for variable host and vector populations. These are latent period in the host population, latent period in the vector population and duration of partial immunity. The results of our mathematical analysis indicate that a threshold parameterR0 exists. ForR0 > 1, the expected number of mosquitoes infected from humansRhm should be greater than a certain critical valueR∗hm or should be less thanR∗hm whenR ∗ hm > 1, for a stable endemic equilibrium to exist. We deduce from model analysis that an increase in the period within which partial immunity is lost increases the spread of the disease. Numerically we deduce that treatment of the partially immune humans assists in reducing the severity of the disease and that transmission blocking vaccines would be effective in a partially immune population. Numerical simulations support our analytical conclusions and illustrate possible behaviour scenarios of the model. c © 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Tribal Community Visit to Malaria-Endemic Areas Can Pose Risk to Car Nicobar Island: Deterrent for Malaria Elimination

Introduction: In the past 10 years, a declining trend was seen in the annual parasite incidence (API) of malaria in the Car Nicobar Island. For the past few years, the API in the island has been below one. Car Nicobar Island is struggling with malaria cases reported to have been brought from other, malaria-endemic islands. Methods: The movements of people...

Stability and Numerical Analysis of Malaria- mTB- HIV/AIDS Co-infection (TECHNICAL NOTE)

In this paper, we develop a mathematical model to examine the transmission dynamics of curable malaria, curable mTB and non-curable HIV/AIDS and their co-infection. The size of population has been taken as varying due to the emigration of susceptible population. The total population is divided into five subclasses as susceptible, malaria infected, mTB infected, HIV infection and AIDS by assumin...

Current Issues in Clinical and Laboratory Diagnosis in Malaria

Malaria is a protozoan infection (Najera &Hempel, 2006 as cited in Okwa & Ibidapo, 2010) with protean manifestations in the human species (Mohaptra, 2002; Murthy, 2000; Talib, 1996) causing nearly one million deaths mainly in African children and decreasing gross domestic product by as much as 1.3% in countries with high disease rates (World Health Organization [WHO], 2010). Approximately half ...

The Impact of IL-18 and IFN-γ on Severity of Malaria and Quality of Treatment

Background & Objective: In human malaria, genotype of cytokines affect immune system. The impact of genotype -137G/C in IL-18 and +874A/T in IFN-γ on the severity of malaria and the quality of treatment – as factors to form asymptomatic persons in endemic regions- has been investigated.Materials & Methods: 100 patients and 102 healthy persons were evaluated by Nested-PCR and thick blood fil...

گزارش 1 مورد مالاریای القایی در معتاد تزریقی

Malaria is a protozoal disease. It has four species (P. Falciparum, P. Vivax, P. Ovale, P. Malariae) that each produces disease in humans. Malaria is transmitted by female Anopheles bite to human. It can also be transmitted by blood transfusion or contaminated needle. Iran is divided to 3 zones for transmission of malaria: 1- north of Zagros mountain, 2- south and south-west, 3- so...
